TileDB does not allow arrays to change size. Appending new data and removing old data along a specific dimension (ex. time) is useful for realtime applications.

Any plan to move forward this? Especially for appending? It is very common to add columns or rows as well as to combine the existing multiple arrays either row-wise or col-wise.

Also for tiledb-vcf I guess. It's slightly strange that one has to register samples first if tiledb anyway writes new fragments all the time.

Florian R. Hölzlwimmer: Yeah, the reason is that each sample must be assigned a unique row id. Without registration, there may be conflicts. Fortunately, registration is a super fast operation. I do agree though that it is an extra step, so we should explore removing it somehow.
